The American Red Cross of Central New Jersey Youth Leadership Conference was held August 1st through August 5th at the chapter in Princeton. Twenty-two area high school students participated in an action-packed week of learning and activities.
The students were trained with life-saving skills in first aid and CPR; glimpsed into the world of International Humanitarian Law and learned about the fundamental principles of the Global Red Cross Network and how they are applied; were inspired to volunteer in their communities with leadership skills learned through interactive activities with the Spark the Wave program; and learned how they can be instructors of Red Cross programs aimed to keep small children safe. A day dedicated to Government Relations had Representative Rush Holt (D-12) and Mercer County Freeholder Chair Pasquale "Pat" Colavita, Jr. as special guests discussing their roles in government, as well as ways young people can be more involved in their communities. |
