Volunteer with the Red Cross

Red Cross programs and services that are provided by the Central New Jersey chapter are made possible through the dedication and support of more than 1,200 volunteers. Volunteers of all ages and various backgrounds help by assisting victims of disasters such as house fires or floods. They provide lifesaving training in CPR, First Aid and Water Safety programs, deliver meals to the elderly and disabled, help to collect blood, and communicate information to members of the Armed Forces and their families. Others help through office work, special events and fundraising.

Opportunities exist that allow you to put your current skills to use or to develop new skills to help others. Whatever your interest, as long as you have a desire to help make someone's life a little brighter, the Red Cross has a place for you.

Become a Volunteer in Three Easy Steps...

#1
Review the brief descriptions of Volunteer Opportunities. Find out which ones spark your interest and may be a great fit for you.

#2
Attend a Volunteer Orientation. Within 45-minutes, we highlight the history, mission and fundamental principles of the Red Cross and introduce you to the various departments and the roles each plays in the community. It is our goal to help you select the role(s) that compliment your interest and time. No commitment necessary. However, you will have an opportunity to complete and submit the Volunteer Application at the end of the orientation. Click here to view Orientation Schedule...
#3

Submit your Volunteer Application/Complete online Background Check.

Once you’ve handed in or mailed the Volunteer Application received at Orientation, the next step is to complete an on-line (Internet) background check. Background Checks are required for all American Red Cross Employees and Volunteers.

On the Background Check Website, all individuals are screened in three areas: DMV, Social Security trace, and Federal/National Criminal History. Details regarding Background Check are provided at Orientation.

Once accepted, all volunteers will have their general information shared with the department(s) they have indicated an interest in. Within each department, there will be an individual who will contact the new volunteer and welcome them to the department, as well as provide them with the follow-up steps for involvement (such as training classes, meetings, etc.).

Greet donors at blood drives.

Aid military members and their families.
