A Thank You From Afghanistan...
January, 2012
Dear Red Cross and all those from Educational
Testing Services (ETS), Best of Bloomberg (B.O.B.)
and the students of Sunnymead Elementary.
Thank you so much for the care packages
that you sent to us here in Afghanistan. I was just
about to try to start looking into buying an electric
razor, but there is no longer any need with all the
razors you sent. Our entire directorate was having
a field day finding special items to use from your
packages. We also thoroughly enjoyed your words
of encouragement and love what you wrote in your
letters. It is acts of sharing like this that help to get
us through the challenges of being so many miles
away from our loved ones. Please send these
pictures to all those that contributed to the care
packages so that they can share in our experience
here.
Respectfully,
John

Community Christian Choir and American Red Cross,
We received a care package from you about a month or so ago and we would truly like to thank you and express our gratitude for the wonderful care package you sent to us. Myself and US Air Force Capt Joe S. are in a pretty remote place with little to no amenities and no real mail service (we get mail about twice a month). With no PX or stores available, we are grateful for everything we receive. We share a compound with about 70 Afghans and personnel from a few different countries (Portuguese, Romanian, Czech and French). We share everything we get with all of them and they too are extremely appreciative.
Thanks so much.
Sincerely,
Paul

To Red Cross,
My unit received some of the items you guys sent to Afghanistan. I cannot begin to thank you enough for them. Most of us are really missing our kids and to get the letters and pictures they colored is really cool. The goodies and personal hygiene stuff helps too. :)
Anyway I really wanted to take the time and thank you and your students for the support and ask that you continue to do so. You are making a difference in the Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, and Airmen’s lives that your packages touch.
Sincerely,
1SG Chad E. Fisher

Some of our Adopt A Unit care package recipients in Afghanistan sent this photo with the following note:
Hello Joanna,
I had the most wonderful day going around delivering your gifts. It's one of my few pleasures. A picture speaks a thousand words!!!
Please let everyone know how much their efforts are appreciated. |

Dear Mrs. Davis,
Thank you and the American Red Cross of Central Jersey and the Congregation at St. Peter's Lutheran Church very much for your thoughts and taking the time to send us cookies, and well wishes. It is people like you and your groups that help Soldiers focus on the mission at hand. You and the other members of your organization and affiliated organizations like St. Peter's are very much appreciated for taking the time to support us overseas.
It is really a great feeling to see how happy my Soldiers are when they feast on such wonderful cookies; it really means so much to them to know they are supported back home. God bless you, your family and the Congregation at St. Peter's Lutheran Church. Again, thank you for your thoughtful gifts and support.
Respectfully yours, Frank Brogna

Dear Johanna,
Thank you for your thoughtful gift of snacks. You really know what to do to make a soldier happy. My team and I enjoyed them. It was such a nice gift.
Thank you for thinking about us. Your box made me a little less homesick and a lot more comfortable.
Sincerely,
J. Tom |

Dear Julie,
Thanks ever so much yet again for the fabuloso goodies. You (and your friends from the Red Cross-they rock) have been single-handedly responsible for the huge jump in the popularity of Vet Services here in the Camp.
It is great to have stuff to share, and we love doing it. There is nothing like heading over to Al Udied AFB for a mission and being able to leave the gate guards (who stand in the hot sun all day and all night long) something to take their minds of the mind-numbing job. We generally spread the wealth to all of our buddies on both bases. They gain weight so we don't have to!
Seriously, we truly appreciate the thoughtfulness of you and your friends and colleagues. It has meant a lot to all of us here.
It is really starting to get hot here. We are averaging around 110 or so during the day, and every week it just gets hotter. Pretty soon, it won't drop below 100 at night. It just drains you to walk around outside. There is usually a stiff breeze blowing off the Gulf, so it's like standing in front of a hairdryer turned on high heat whenever you are out. When we have sand and dust storms, just add those little charming extras. I prefer to think of it as cheap microderm abrasion. I’ll just keep repeating that to myself.
Thanks again, and talk to you soon! Please pass on my regards to all of your buds at the Red Cross - they are terrific.
