June 22, 2010 – Red Cross You Win...You Choose! Raffle 1st Prize Winner Arlene Steinkerchner (seated in car) receives the keys to her new 2010 Volvo XC60 Crossover from American Red Cross of Central New Jersey CEO Kevin Sullivan along with Larry Long (left) and Chris Long of Long Motor Company at the Volvo of Princeton dealership.

PRINCETON, NJ, August 19, 2010 – For years, Volvo Cars of North America and the Long Motor Company have generously donated the winning vehicle for the American Red Cross of Central New Jersey’s “You Win…You Choose” raffle. This year, both Miele, Inc. and Continental Airlines joined to support the charitable efforts by donating additional prizes to help raise funds for the Red Cross.

On June 10th, at an event hosted by Miele at their Princeton Gallery, four ticket stubs were pulled from the raffle drum. The lucky winners are:

1st Prize -- Arlene Steinkerchner of Wadsworth, OH is the winner of a 2010 Volvo XC60
2nd Prize -- John Dewey of Westfield, NJ is the winner of a Miele washing machine and dryer
3rd Prize -- William Beachell of Belle Mead, NJ is the winner of a Miele vacuum cleaner
4th Prize -- Pat Hickey of Edison, NJ is the winner of two First Class Continental Airlines round-trip airline tickets anywhere in the 48 states, Alaska, Canada, Mexico, Caribbean and Central America.

When notified via telephone that she was the winner of a new 2010 Volvo, Arlene Steinkerchner could barely contain her excitement. “I’ve never won anything like this in my life!” exclaimed Arlene, a ten-year volunteer with her local Red Cross chapter in Ohio. The mother of six with seventeen grandchildren chose the spacious Volvo XC60 crossover as her prize.

The generous donations of prizes by Volvo and the Long Motor Company, Miele, Inc. and Continental Airlines allows nearly all of the $135,700 raised during this year’s raffle to go directly to local Red Cross programs and services.

“Volvo and Long Motor Company share a commitment to safety with the Red Cross and we are honored to partner again to help make a difference in the community,” said Chris Long, Sales Manager, Volvo of Princeton.

Red Cross services the raffle helps support include disaster response, meals delivered to the elderly and homebound, providing a safe supply of blood to area hospitals, emergency preparedness education, and lifesaving health and safety training.

"Miele is proud to join Volvo Cars of North America, Long Motor Company and Continental Airlines in sponsoring the American Red Cross of Central New Jersey’s annual fund-raiser,” said Nick Ord, President and CEO, Miele, Inc. “The Red Cross Raffle is one of the most important means for the Red Cross to earn needed funds that go directly back into our community to help victims of house fires and natural disasters and support critical health and safety programs put forth by a tremendous network of selfless volunteers."

Plans for the 2011 Red Cross Raffle are underway with all partners hoping to make next year’s raffle even more exciting and successful than it was this year.

About the American Red Cross of Central New Jersey (www.njredcross.org)
The Central New Jersey Chapter serves the people of Mercer, Middlesex, Hunterdon, and parts of Somerset counties, helping our community prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies. Last year, 2,244 volunteers and 20 full- or part-time employees assisted 188 families (577 individuals with shelter, food and/or clothing) after 95 disasters (mostly house fires) displaced them from their homes; trained 52,319 residents with First Aid, CPR or other lifesaving skills; delivered 48,777 nutritious meals to homebound and elderly; and provided care and support to 211 military families. Central New Jersey residents donated 13,412 pints of blood through the American Red Princeton Blood Donor Center or American Red Cross blood drives throughout our service area. The Red Cross is not a government agency; it relies on donations of time, money, and blood to do its work.
