PRINCETON, NJ, May 23, 2007 – William J. Noonan, the late, former chairman of the American Red Cross of Central New Jersey, was honored as this year’s recipient of the Bob Clancy Culture of Caring award. Mr. Noonan dedicated many years of extraordinary service to the Red Cross, which included superb leadership as the chapter’s Chairman of the Board during 2005-2006. “Bill made it his mission to help others who simply could not help themselves when life dealt a difficult hand,” said current chairman and good friend, Robert Humes. “Bill’s actions were a constant reminder of the Red Cross promise – to save lives and instill “a culture of caring.” The award was presented to Bill’s wife Butz Noonan during the Magic of the Red Cross Gala, held Saturday, April 28, 2007 at The Tournament of Players Club at Jasna Polana in Princeton. The annual fundraiser came at a time when the chapter was heavily involved with flood relief efforts following the mid-April Nor’easter. American Red Cross of Central New Jersey CEO Kevin Sullivan brought the gala guests up to date on Red Cross flood response activities, highlighting that the Magic of the Red Cross sometimes means shelter from the storm and help getting victims of disaster back on their feet. Several local businesses provided a wide range of silent auction items which helped bring the Magic of the Red Cross Gala’s net proceeds to over $80,000 in support of Red Cross services throughout central New Jersey. The Culture of Caring award is named in memory of a true friend and former American Red Cross of Central New Jersey board member Bob Clancy. A strong Red Cross promoter beset with volunteer spirit, Mr. Clancy was convinced that being involved with the mission of the Red Cross could help create a culture of caring in the community. The American Red Cross of Central New Jersey is a non-governmental agency that serves the people of Mercer, Middlesex, Hunterdon, and parts of Somerset counties. Led by volunteers, the Red Cross offers a broad array of vital services to our community in need. You can help too – Volunteer your time, make a monetary donation, donate blood, and/or take a CPR course.
