PRINCETON, NJ, March 13, 2008 – The American Red Cross of Central New Jersey will present its annual Bob Clancy Culture of Caring award to volunteer William Augustine for his extraordinary service to the community through the local Red Cross chapter. A precious member of the Red Cross Family for nearly 10 years, William Augustine delivers meals to the elderly and homebound as a Red Cross Meals on Wheels volunteer; serves on the chapter’s Board of Directors; is an active fundraiser, chairing special events such as the Evening with Maestro Nelson Shanks art auction; and has assisted the chapter’s Emergency Services department during several larger local disasters, such as flooding along the Delaware River. “Bill is a caring individual who will go out of his way to help those less fortunate and those that may find themselves in a dire situation,” said Kevin Sullivan, Chief Executive Officer of the American Red Cross of Central New Jersey. “Bill is an immeasurable asset to our community and it will be an honor to present him with the Bob Clancy Culture of Caring award.” The announcement was made by Red Cross Gala Co-Chairs Karen Fagard and Bettie Greber. The Gala Committee elects the award recipient, with final approval from the chapter’s Board of Directors. The Bob Clancy Culture of Caring award will be presented during the 12th Annual Red Cross Gala, to be held Saturday evening, April 26th in The Tournament of Players Club at Jasna Polana in Princeton. This year’s Gala, themed Paint the Town Red, has several Greater Princeton Area businesses supporting the event by dressing up their windows in red during the month of April. These include: Serenity at Main Street, Chambers Walk Café & Catering, Vidalia, Acacia Restaurant, Fedora Café, Pins and Needles, and Hamilton Jewelers. Boutiques such as Zoe and Merrick’s will also display their finest red in their windows. The Culture of Caring award is named in memory of a true friend and former American Red Cross of Central New Jersey board member Bob Clancy. A strong Red Cross promoter beset with volunteer spirit, Mr. Clancy was convinced that being involved with the mission of the Red Cross could help create a culture of caring in the community. Past recipients include the Long Family of Princeton, Merrill Lynch, and William J. Noonon. About the American Red Cross of Central New Jersey (www.njredcross.org)
