PRINCETON, NJ, February 12, 2010 – The American Red Cross of Central New Jersey will hold its annual fundraising gala on Saturday, February 27, 2010 at Green Acres Country Club in Lawrenceville. This year’s Gala Committee, led by Co-Chairs Elizabeth Baughan and Patricia Lamb, is preparing an evening of dining, dancing and fun - all flavored with a little slice of Italy.

“That’s Amore,” a black tie event, will begin with the cocktail hour at 6:30 p.m. followed by dinner and dancing to the music of Dane Anthony and Band. A silent auction will offer bidding on luxurious travel, unique vacation homes, and services that pamper the soul. The annual gala raises funds for Red Cross programs and services including disaster response for families affected by house fires and other local disasters, meals delivered to the elderly and homebound, and emergency preparedness education.

During the evening’s festivities, the Red Cross will present the Bob Clancy Culture of Caring Award to volunteer Cheryl Mooney in recognition of her unwavering commitment and support of the Red Cross mission.

A cherished member of the Red Cross family, Cheryl Mooney has served on the Gala Committee for more than eight years; several years as Gala Chair. Her innovative approach and attention to detail have helped turn each year’s gala into a successful and enjoyable fundraiser. Her enthusiasm for the work of the Red Cross is evident to all those she engages in the organization. Cheryl is motivated by compassion, having witnessed the direct impact that Red Cross services have had helping families throughout the community. Cheryl and her husband Robert have four children and reside in Princeton.

About the American Red Cross of Central New Jersey (www.njredcross.org)
The Central New Jersey Chapter serves the people of Mercer, Middlesex, Hunterdon, and parts of Somerset counties, helping our community prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies. Last year, 2,244 volunteers and 20 full- or part-time employees assisted 188 families (577 individuals with shelter, food and/or clothing) after 95 disasters (mostly house fires) displaced them from their homes; trained 52,319 residents with First Aid, CPR or other lifesaving skills; delivered 48,777 nutritious meals to homebound and elderly; and provided care and support to 211 military families. Central New Jersey residents donated 13,412 pints of blood through the American Red Princeton Blood Donor Center or American Red Cross blood drives throughout our service area. The Red Cross is not a government agency; it relies on donations of time, money, and blood to do its work.
