Red Cross Central New Jersey Region Emergency Services volunteers and staff participated in a hurricane readiness exercise on Saturday, June 11, at Spotswood High School. The drill was conducted as a “Learning Station Model” with disaster leadership volunteer staff guiding other volunteers through the different functions focused on for this exercise including: Mass Care Sheltering, Mass Care Feeding, Staffing, Logistics, Disaster Health Services, Command Center Liaison and Disaster Services Technology. The Red Cross partnered with the Middlesex County Office of Emergency Management, who facilitated full general population sheltering, as well as a co-located medical infirmary run by the Middlesex County Medical Reserve Corps and a pet shelter run by the Middlesex County Animal Response Team for the exercise. Middlesex County Community Emergency Response Teams (C.E.R.T.) also assisted with the setup and organization of the shelter site. World Cares Center, The Salvation Army, local EMS and Girl Scout Troops, along with other organizations and agencies, also participated in or assisted with the drill.
